Commiphora mukul (family Burseraceae) commonly called as gum guggul is highly valued in Ayurveda an Indian system of medicine practiced in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It is a large thorny shrub or a small tree, with spiny, ascending branches. The gum resin extract of C. mukul tree has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2000 years to treat a variety of ailments like obesity, lipid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, bone fracture, cardiovascular disorder disease.
